Dancers should attentive to the instructors, polite and punctual. A registration/policies and procedure form must be completed, signed by the parent and returned, along with the annual per family registration fee (beginning August 2016), in order for the student to attend classes. Please complete a separate form for each dancer. Forms can also be scanned and emailed to [email protected]. All tuition payments should be made payable to "McBride Irish Dancers." PLEASE NOTE: All personal information collected by the McBride School WILL NOT be shared with any third party for solicitation(s) of any kind. Attendance:
Before and After Class: Please be aware that the McBride School is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students at our studio locations. Parents of students under the age of 5 should remain at the studio during the brand new beginner classes. Students should not be left at our studios for any length of time before or after their classes. It is also the responsibility of the parent to provide appropriate and adequate care for any siblings and/or non- student family members when at our studios.
Clean Studios: It is the responsibility of the Instructors, Students and Parents to clean up after themselves while in our studios, including, but not limited to, the cubbies, bathrooms, dance floor and any other spaces used during class. This specifically includes removing and throwing away duct tape, gorilla tape, electrical tape, band aids, clothing, water bottles, etc. Please put all trash in the trash bins located in the studios and please do not leave your water bottles on the floors. In some locations we share with other Dance Organizations. Please be considerate as the studios are being turned over to those organizations who teach after us.
Drop-in Classes: Tuition rates are set such that a dancer can attend one, two or more classes at a set fee. However, we do have a drop in class on Thursdays in our Dublin Location that is not part of the regular tuition. If a dancer wishes to drop-in for this class, the drop in fee is $15.00 per student ($25.00 for siblings) and must be paid in cash to the teacher at the beginning of class.
Cross-Training Class: The McBride School has begun a Cross-Training class for Irish Dancing on Friday nights in Dublin. The class includes stretches, core work, and cross-training, and is open to all pre-teen and teen dancers who want a cross training class that will enhance their Irish Dancing Skills. There is no extra charge in tuition for this class. For more information, please contact Aindreea Parker, TCRG in training, at [email protected]
Workshop/Dance Camp Payments: In order for a student to attend a workshop or the dance camp, all fees must be paid pursuant to the deadline indicated on the registration form, by either cash or check. In some instances, the registrations fees can be paid on the first day of the workshop/camp prior to the beginning of classes, with prior approval by Eileen McBride Parker, TCRG.
Make Up Classes: Make up classes are allowed, including classes that are cancelled by the Instructor or not held due to local Feisanna or holidays. If you would like to attend a make up class, please contact us at [email protected] to let us know which class/day/location you will be attending for the make up.
Illness/Absences: Dancing students should be in class at every opportunity if they desire to move up through the levels and be successful, both for themselves, and if they desire to compete. However, dancers should not attend class if they are ill. Please notify us if your child will be absent due to illness. Please also advise us if your child will be missing class(es) due to other activities, such as academic reasons, schedule vacations, family emergencies, etc.
Dance Dress Code: Dance students are required to wear tee shirts (white or black preferred), black shorts or skorts and white socks. Appropriate dancing shoes should be worn for all dance classes, competition, performances and workshops. Brand New Beginners can wear sneakers, ballet flats or mary-janes for their initial classes. However, students should purchase ghillies (light shoes) or boys reel shoes by the time they are promoted to the Advanced Beginners Class(es). There are used shoes available within the school depending on size. We are always happy to help you look for, and obtain, used shoes. We can also put you in touch with a local shoe vendor to buy new. We periodically will do a School (group) poodle sock order.
Injuries: Participation in Irish dancing may result in physical injuries. Our Families, agree, understand and do hereby waive, release, absolve, indemnify and agree to hold harmless the McBride School of Irish Dance, the studio management, instructors and employees of the McBride School of Irish Dance, of any and all claims and actions, in law or in equity, arising out of any Irish dance related activity, including, but not limited to, activities in the studios, dance class, workshops, during competition and/or at McBride School performances.
East Bay Feis: The McBride School sponsors the East Bay Feis every October. All parents and age appropriate dancers are expected, and agree, to volunteer at the Feis where ever needed. Volunteer opportunities will be made available for all to help. Running a Feis is a major undertaking and we cannot do it without the support and assistance of our families. If a family does not, or cannot, help out during the feis, they will be assessed a $100 donation to help support the Feis.
School Notifications: The school will provide all information during class time, as well as sending notices via email that pertain to events, performances, upcoming competitions, workshops, school closures and the like. In addition, the McBride School sends out monthly e-newsletters with pertinent information for our families. It is the responsibility of the parents and dancers to be aware of the School's communication methods. In addition, we will also post the information in our Members Portal of our website (www.mcbrideirishdancers.com), or on our Facebook Account, "McBride Irish Dance CA." Some reminders will be posted on our Facebook Page, "McBride Irish Dancers." However, email notification/e-newsletter is our preferred and primary source of providing information. Accordingly, it is the responsibility of the parent or adult student to inform the School of any mailing address, telephone number or email changes as soon as possible.
Instructor Contact Information: Ann McBride, ADCRG can be reached at [email protected] and Eileen McBride Parker, TCRG, can be reached at [email protected]. The McBride School's general email is [email protected]. Please do not speak with, or interrupt, the instructor during class. Instead, we request that you please email or text the instructor ahead of time in order to schedule a time to speak with them in-between classes, so as to not interrupt class time for ALL students. Thank you!
Competition: The McBride School is accredited by An Coimisiun Le Rince Gaelacha (CLRG), also known as the Irish Dance Commission, Dublin Ireland. By joining our school, you and your dancer now belong to an accredited dance school which allows your dancer to compete at CLRG sanctioned Feisanna (competitions). Some children are very interested in taking part in competition, advancing through the different levels of skill, with the ultimate goal of reaching Open Championship. For those who want to compete, this path can be very rewarding. Dancers will only be considered eligible for competition if they have been attending classes on a regular basis. For other dancers, learning new steps, making new friends, and doing the occasional performance is equally as satisfying. It is always up to the individual dancer and family as to which path they want to follow. However, all dancers are expected to practice at home during the week to improve, no matter their ultimate goal in Irish Dance.
Entry categories are determined using two main criteria:
Performances: The McBride School is asked to dance at many events, including parades, festivals, libraries, corporate and private functions, and especially during the Month of March for St. Patrick's Day. Most performances are open to all qualified dancers. New beginner dancers will be advised by their instructors when they are ready to sign up and participate. Performing in public is not required, but can be a very fun and rewarding experience, especially for our younger dancers, and for those who don't wish to compete. Opportunities to perform will be announced by email and on our Facebook (McBride Irish Dance CA). Costume requirements for performances will vary by level of dancing.
